AI Token
What is an AI Token?
Token is a technology that enables computers to understand and process human language. You can think of it as a way to cut text into small pieces, each with a special number. In this way, computers can identify the meaning and structure of the text based on these numbers, and better answer your questions or generate the content you want.
How Tokens are Calculated
We use the Byte Pair Encoding (BPE) method to split the text into tokens. Each token is a byte sequence that can represent one or more characters. Because different languages and characters may occupy different numbers of tokens. In English, a word occupies approximately 0.75 tokens, and a character occupies approximately 0.25 tokens. Chinese characters usually occupy two or three bytes, so each Chinese character may require one or two tokens to represent.
It should be noted that when calculating the token consumption of our software, it includes both the characters inputted and the characters outputted. In addition, during the usage, there may be some additional token consumption, but this amount is usually very small.
Tokens are very cheap, and we will try our best to minimize token consumption. We provide a record of your daily token consumption so that you can estimate your daily expenses on this item.
Token Limitations
ivyPilot (including Speed Reading) can use up to 4000 tokens per session. This includes the total number of input and output tokens. Therefore, we have set a limit of 5000 characters in most functions, and 2500 characters for Chinese. However, it is recommended not to fill it up, as filling it up may cause overflow, and we will refuse to continue the service after overflow. The Speed Reading function of ivyPilot uses many implicit tokens, as we scan the relevant content. Therefore, users cannot input 5000 characters. Users need to provide concise summary questions. Generally speaking, the more characters inputted, the more tokens used, and the slower the calculation speed. Overall, the current speed is still slow, so please be patient.
